In Alterity (Balthazar) (2011) Çavusoglu pays direct homage to Bresson’s masterpiece . Shot on location in Turkey, Çavusoglu fuses the two tales intentionally bypassing the ill fate of the girl to depict the donkey as the martyred central protagonist in a suspense-ridden tale of morality and treason set against breathtaking rural and rugged scenes of nature.
