Systems (2009)
Vinyl, 3466 X 2792 mm
Employing the principles of informal architecture, Systems (2009) is a large-scale flat perspective floor drawing derived from actual archi- tectural drawings for a three dimensional sculpture. The sculpture was developed initially as an elaboration on the architectural edifice of the McCaig’s tower that was used as the stage for Çavuşoğlu’s epic video installation entitled Voyage of no Return (2009). Systems solicits public interaction by inviting audiences to walk on the lines of the drawing, which are made from vinyl. As they fleetingly pass through, this seemingly mundane act of walking is recorded via a CCTV camera, installed at a specific angle, which captures the drawing as an illusionary large three dimensional sculpture with audiences walking through and within. These recordings are relayed on a monitor, creating surreal interactive vistas that toy with the idea of perspective and space. Alterity, Sara Raza, 2011
